Objectives:

ART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY is a first-level course whose main objective is to familiarize participants with the practices and problems, actors, themes and challenges that have given meaning to the deployment and movement different trends of modern art from the late nineteenth century and 1945. ART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY itself the task of presenting and interpreting the many historically dynamic, experiences and issues in their crossings and confrontations, have transformed the concrete modalities of artistic experimentation throughout this period highly disturbed. The course also aims to define the foundations of a historical understanding of cultural practices, and promote the formation of a critical assessment.

Content:

OF ART Twentieth Century examines the different conditions discount modern art, modernism art and historical avant-garde in the diversity of their operations. The course aims to introduce and analyze the practices and ideas, projects and innovations through which these contradictory currents have tried to change the conditions of artistic expression, mollified subjective perception or contribute to the revolutionary transformation of man and society. The course will also present the main resistance that has objected to these many efforts and experiences: repression Direct recovery broadcasts. Among the main themes, issues and subjects tackled by ART OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY, we will discuss include: the beginnings of formal innovation and poetic secession in the art of Cézanne, Gauguin and Van Gogh, the value of symbolism and passing the first test of Impressionism; the situation by Matisse and "Fauves", the importance of Primitivism in the development of modern attitudes in the twentieth century, the different phases of Expressionism ("Die Brücke" "Der Blaue Reiter", "Der Sturm"), the emergence and transformation of Cubism (Cezanne Cubism, Analytical Cubism and Synthetic Cubism) components and the impact of Italian Futurism; variations of the concept of abstraction in Kandinsky, Kupka, Delaunay, Picabia, Larionov, Malevich and Mondrian; the meaning of the painting by Giorgio de Chirico; Operation Dada; of Surrealism as a movement, methodology and experience, of the Neue Sachlichkeit, the "Call to Order," and variations of modernism in the inter-official wars.

Presentations lectures accompanied by a slide show. Reading and study of texts. Film and video.
